Can you arrive later than arrival date on Vietnam E-visa?

If it’s your first time coming to Vietnam or first time applying for E-visa, it might be confusing and hard to understand how E-visa works. This article will explain some important matters regarding validity, entry date and exit date of Vietnam E-visa.

Visa Validity

Visa validity refers to the timeframe during which the visa holder is authorized to enter Vietnam. Unless stated otherwise, a visa can be used to enter Vietnam at any point before it expires—up until midnight (Vietnam time) on the final day of its validity—provided the number of allowed entries has not been exceeded.

Entry date and Exit date

Your visa becomes valid starting from the "entry date" printed on the visa, not the actual day you arrive in Vietnam. Whether you enter the country or not, your visa will expire once the duration mentioned on it ends.

You are not permitted to arrive in Vietnam before the start date or remain in the country after the expiration date listed on your visa. However, you are free to travel in and out of Vietnam on any day within the valid period indicated.

Note:

If your visa has expired, you must obtain a new one to re-enter Vietnam. For travelers already in the country who wish to stay beyond the permitted time, an extension must be requested from the Vietnam Immigration Department before the current stay period runs out. Approval is not guaranteed, and applicants are responsible for any issues that may arise from overstaying.

Remaining in Vietnam beyond your visa’s validity is a violation of immigration laws and may result in fines or other legal penalties.
